Finally we have Pinterest with a dedicated iPad version, 15th August 2012. For those of you who are new to Pinterest, it describes itself as “a place where you can dream about, plan, and prepare for the things you want to do in your life”. You can find a large selection of topics, including vacation plans, new gadgets, favorite recipes, fashion or the latest home decor. It is also great for business to consumer (B2C) and business to business (B2B).
Pinterest version 2.0
Version 2 of Pinterest includes the following updates:
Let’s indulge ourselves with the new iPad changes shall we? Here is how the iPad app opens up when you login with an existing account.
The navigation

Version 2.0 opens up straight to the “following” stream, which is nice. I like apps to open in this way when you are following others. This is how the Instagram app opens.
You can view the navigation choices by selecting the icon in the top left corner.

From this point you can select a Pinterest category. I have chosen “Architecture”.

You can select the cross ( X ) in the top right hand corner to go back through the screens all the way to the starting point of the app if you so desire, which was the “following” stream.
Recent activity
One of the most important things to know when using Pinterest is your recent activity. I normally do this via daily email updates, and the information is also shown in the online version. The iPad app will present you with your recent activity if you click the button next to the Pinterest logo on the main navigation.

Browse the web
Browse the web is the second navigation choice. You must enter a web site, not a search term. When the site you have chosen is open, you can select the “Pin it” button to pin an image. This will not work if the “no-pin” code has been used on the site you selected.

A nice option is to view recent pins from the site you selected. In my example I am viewing my Flickr stream, so selecting this button will show the images that have been pinned from other accounts on Flickr (Here is a quick reminder of the Flickr and Pinterest situation).

Search
Search is the third navigation choice. I decided to search for “social media” (hmm, thought long and hard on that one). I can see the search results presented in three ways. Firstly, the pins…

Then I can look at the boards that the search selected..

Finally, the people that produced a match with the search term..

The Profile page
You can look at your own profile page by selecting the button in the bottom left corner. You will be shown your boards when the profile page opens.

You can view your pins by selecting the next button. You can also select the “Likes” button to see the images from other people that you liked.

You can also view the people who you are following and those following you.

Settings
Lastly, you can select the settings button, which is located next to the profile page button.

The fun time starts now
I use Pinterest a lot. If you love Pinterest like me, well… you may find it very addictive. So I was vexed by having to use the iPhone version on the iPad. It was “awkward” to gauge the quality of a picture when it is either too small or over blown on the iPad screen. Thankfully, a thing of the past.
The iPhone app has also had some small changes applied to it, especially the login process, which is now identical to the new iPad version, however, the iPhone navigation remains the same as before.
Now we have what all Pinterest iPad users always wanted.. our own dedicated version. This post has shown you how easy it is to use, so download it now and enjoy it and let me know how much you like it (which you will of course!).
